Hello Parents,

Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas break with your child. It is my prayer that 2009 will be a year full of blessings!                                                                          

Thank you for the nice Christmas gifts that you gave to me! That was very thoughtful of you! I did not get a chance to open them on the Friday before the holidays because of the early dismissal. However,you need to know they were very much appreciated!

We have begun a new unit in Math called Geometry-Exploring 2-D and 3-D Shapes. We will be learning the names of these shapes and where we see them all around us.

We are also starting a new unit in Socials called The Sky Declares. We will be talking about the weather,seasons,clouds,daytime,nighttime etc. We will be learning how God is in control and how He created the various weather patterns.

There are a few students who need to return their gym clothes. Please do so by Friday.   Thank you!

Remember to pray for our adopt-a-leader,Cora Hunse as she works as a nurse up north with the Native People and in the Dominican Republic.

 

 When your child comes home with  white half pieces of papers with stars on them,DON'T THROW THEM OUT! These stars are strategies we are learning to help us to read. We call them our STAR STRATEGIES. On the back of the stars are suggestions for you.These suggestions tell you how to use that particular star when you are reading to or listening to your child read. PLEASE use the stars as a tool to help your child decode unfamiliar words. We talk about them often in class as well.

 I hope you all read the website news.There will be a written reminder in the Agendas on Tuesdays to help you remember to check the site. The Agendas will only be sent home on Tuesdays. Please SIGN IT and send it back to school the following day.

MATH:  We are studying Geometry-Exploring 2-D and 3-D shapes. The Math series we will be following is called Nelson Mathematics.

 

BI BLE: We are working through the Christian Schools International Bible Series. Our theme in Grade 1 is the story of God and His people. We are studying Moses.

FRENCH:  Mr. Turnevicius is teaching them this subject. He will be introducing them to  colours,numbers,alphabet etc. all in French.

READING: We are reading the small reader called Know What I Can Do?
