This Week in Grade 4 - Jan. 5-9, 2009

It was wonderful seeing the students again yesterday. I hope that you had a wonderful time with family and friends over the holidays.  God's blessings for a great 2009.

  • Bible - Our new memory work is Psalm 8.  This is one of the pieces that the students will be reciting in the choral speaking division at the Niagara Christian Schools Fine Arts Festival in February.  We will be doing much work on this at school but the sooner this is memorized the easier it will be to develop our pacing, expression, etc.  Also a unit Bible test is planned for Tuesday, Jan. 13.  The students were given review guides and we will be doing some in-class review as well.
  • Spelling - This week we will be working on Lesson 16 dealing with long e sounds.  The lesson work is due on Wednesday and the test will be on Friday.
  • Reading - We have begun our next novel study on the book by C. S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.  The students are very excited about this reading unit.
  • Math - Over the next few weeks, your child will be learning and reviewing multiplication and division facts to 9x9=81.  We will use a variety of strategies to remember these facts.  It is important that your child be able to recall and apply a strategy to find each fact.  We will be using these facts to multiply by multiples of 10, such as 60, 80, and 200.
  • Social Studies - In our new unit, One Body, Many Parts: First Nations of This Land, the students will be given the opportunity to delight in and investigate the cultures of the First Nations peoples of this land we now call Canada.

Thank you,

Mrs. Koole

Greetings,  My name is Diane Koole and I am presently the grade 4 teacher. I have taught at Beacon Christian Schools for 23 years at various grade levels.  I am a graduate of Calvin College B.Ed. and Brock University M.Ed.  Teaching is a thrilling and fulfilling profession to be a part of.  Joy in my profession comes from seeing the students being excited about finding out more about God's creation as they learn to care for and explore it.
