Family Expectations for Athletics

1. The student athlete and his / her family will represent Brother Dutton School with good sportsmanship at all times.

2. The student athlete will maintain acceptable standards with all school work. The parent, teacher or principal may request a reduction in participation if school work begins to suffer. These decisions will be communicated to the student and to the coach.

3. The student athlete will attend all scheduled practices and games.  If he / she is unable to attend, the coach will be notified prior to the athletes absence. Failure to communicate with the coach regarding absences may result in loss of participation time for the athlete.

4. All uniforms and materials given to the athlete to use for participation must be returned to Brother Dutton within one week of completion of the season.

5. Communication with coaches is expected. Any concerns arising during the season should always first be addressed with the coach. If, after speaking with the coach, the parent still would like further resolution, they may then request to speak with the principal. Any questions regarding rules, procedures, schedules, etc. may be addressed to the Athletic Director.

6. Recognizing that volunteers are the key to success of Athletics and that this success benefits the entire school, parents are expected to volunteer a certain number of hours. Currently, this requirement is three (3) shifts per child per sport. These shifts will be during the basketball season. These shifts are usually 2 hours long and may involve working concessions, collecting entries at the gate or keeping score with the score clock and book. Times will be scheduled through the year by the Concession and Basketball coordinators. Parents may request preferred times to work. However, coverage needs may dictate participation at different times.

7. Even with the required volunteer participation, there is still a need for additional volunteers through the year. Parents are encouraged to seek out these opportunities. High school age siblings, grandparents, & other relatives can also support the Athletic Department by volunteering their time.
