Should I be baptized?
Yes! Water baptism is obedience to the command of Jesus. Peter said it best in Acts 10:47 where he commanded a recent convert to be water baptized. Jesus Himself was also baptized, setting an example for us to follow. (Matthew 3:13-15)
Baptism in water by immersion is an outward sign of an inward work in your life. What does that mean?
Water baptism doesn't save you. It's more like an outward expression and a living witness to others of what has already happened in your heart. When you're immersed in the water, it's a picture of the death of your old nature. When you're raised up from the water, it's a picture of your resurrection to a new life in Christ. You're a new person. A clean person. One whose life has been changed to the extent that Jesus is now Lord of your life and the old person you used to be is gone.
This experience takes place after being born again, and makes a strong public statement that you now belong to Christ and plan on living a new life for Him. According to scripture, you should be baptized as soon as possible after you're saved. (Acts 2:41; 8:12; 16:32-33)
