Concordia College Campus is blessed with volunteers from St. Paul Lutheran and other churches in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin to renovate the oldest building on campus, Lynn Hall, named for the college's first president. Student members of track, soccer, spiritual life and student government groups joined the volunteers in fixing up the building.

U.S. Congressman and civil rights leader John Lewis is welcomed to Brown Chapel by Concordia College-Selma ROTC cadets during the 46th anniversary of the civil rights march from Selma to Montgomery, AL.  The cadets were invited by Congresswoman Terri Sewell, AL 7th Congressional District, to act as good will ambassadors to welcome the congressional delegation to Selma. Among the many guests were U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid,  Senator Tom Harkin, House Minority Whip Congressman  Steny Hoyer, Assistant Minority Leader Congressman  James E. Clyburn,  and several other congressmen and civil rights leaders including the reverend Jessie Jackson.  Over 3000 people attended the event.

Revs. James McDaniels, Matthew Harrison and Tilahun Mendedo participate in the dedication of Christ Chapel on Concordia's campus Feb. 8. Members of the LCMS Black Clergy Caucus participated in the dedication, along with the LCMS SYnod President. The chapel, holding up the name of our Redeemer and Savior, is named for the first Lutheran church founded rural Alabama: Christ Lutheran, founded in Rosebud, AL by Rosa Young and Missionary Nils Baake in 1916.

 Members of the LCMS Black Clergy Caucus met on the Concordia campus Feb. 8 - 11. Clergymen, above, are all graduates of Immanuel Seminary in North Carolina, that was closed in 1983. Rev. Aubrey J. Watson, Jr. delivered the message during student chapel on Wednesday. Rev. Perry McCullom's nephew attends CCS and is president of student activities. LCMS President Rev. Matthew Harrison attended the clergy meeting and spoke with pastors. Rev. Dr. Tilahun Mendedo gave him a copy of the Book of Concord  in the Amharic language, a translation project he oversaw in Ethiopia through the Lutheran Heritage Foundation.

The Selma community came together this month to honor Dr. Tilahun Mendedo on the first anniversary of his presidency of Concordia College-Selma. The event drew businessmen and women, clergy, elected officials and educators to celebrate Dr. Mendedo's first year and look toward the future of the college.

Christmas Comes Early for High School Students in the Concordia College Upward Bound program. Eighty students from two counties come to the Concordia campus twice a month for a Saturday academic program geared at preparing first generation future college students and students whose families live in poverty to succeed in school. For the last session of 2010, students were treated to a pizza lunch, with Christmas cookies and candy, and gifts of backpacks, jackets and more. Mr. Ronnie Harrison directs the program.

 Concordia Freshman Emnet Muzeyen sings "Joy to the World" in her native language of Ethiopia for the Selma Times Journal website.

 

The Rosa Young Woman's Center and Man Center sponsored a health fair for students, staff, faculty and the community for a variety of free health tests. The event was held in conjunction with World AIDS day. Information was provided on HIV detection and prevention and 19 balloons were released to remember those who have passed on due to AIDS.

Concordia College joined the Christmas celebration in the city of Selma Saturday, Dec. 4. The Magnificent Marching Band caroled the crowds with Christmas songs; the ROTC color guard presented the flags.

Professional Development students from Mr. Glenn King's business class practiced etiquette, public speaking, and business acumen at a Buttonhole Breakfast at the historic St. James Hotel. Speaker Mrs. Alicia Summerville from Alabama Power gave advice on how to excel in the workplace.
