The President’s Message

Dear brothers, sisters and friends of Concordia College-Selma. I greet you with the words: “God’s grace mercy and peace be with you” Amen.

I like to watch the older Trek movies, the ones with Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock and the rest of the original crew. In one of the movies, Mr. Spock goes into a chamber filled with radiation in order to save the spaceship. Now dying from exposure to the massive dose of radiation, Mr. Spock is asked, why he went into the chamber knowing it meant certain death. His answer was: “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one.”

When I think about the past, present, and future of Concordia College-Selma, I think about the many sacrifices that individuals, church congregations, Christian organizations, alumni, and friends make to ensure the institution achieves its mission.   I think of Mr. Spock and his logic. Yes, many people who know very little about Selma and even less about Concordia College-Selma support our mission through their sacrifices.

Were it not for the sacrifices of Christian hearted people, the needs of many students would not be met and Dr. Rosa Young’s dream of sharing the pure Gospel in the Black Belt Region would not be a reality.

My prayer is that God will continue to so bless you and all of us who have benefited from a school that continues to provide a Christ centered education for the purpose of affecting the lives of students for service in the church, community and the world. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one and who better understood this logic than our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who placed our needs above his own.

The Lord be with you.
