But just as you excel in everything – in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us – see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
2 Corinthians 8:7
The words above have been selected as our theme for the year. The Apostle Paul, when addressing the Corinthians, encourages them to excel in faith, in speech, in knowledge, love and in giving. As a school community, we are to encourage one another to excel in all aspects of the curriculum recognizing that all of life is the Lord’s.
Salvation is completely a gift of God, accomplished by Christ on our behalf. In no way does our response secure God’s favour, because our very best acts fall far short of God’s holiness. Within God’s covenant family there is a recognition that the Lord desires his children to joyfully excel out of love and thanksgiving for God (Ephesians 2:10).
All God’s people have a stewardship role. Stewardship is a lifestyle based on the belief that God is the rightful owner of everything (Psalm 24:1) and that we are stewards or caretakers of his world, responsible to do with it what he wants done. Biblical stewardship includes many aspects, including ecology, physical fitness, personal finance, the use and development of one’s abilities and more. As in the past, Credo Christian High School desires to assist the home and the church as we collectively explore and develop our individual and communal stewardship responsibilities.
We have been challenged to follow in the footsteps of the early Corinthian Church. High School has a very social dimension and affords the opportunity to meet new friends and establish lifelong relationships. Enjoy this opportunity and challenge yourself and others to be a genuine inclusive Christian community of young adults.
It is my prayer that our covenant Lord will guide and encourage us throughout this new school year.
