Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is a program of our congregation that equips lay persons to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances, both in our congregation and community.

Ministers spread the love of Jesus by caring for community members. They can be there to listen when you are in need of a sympathetic ear. They will not try to solve problems or make judgments. Everything is held in strict confidence.

Stephen Ministers are committed Christian people who...

- express God's care through their lives to others;
- receive 50 hours of initial training in important caring ministry skills and concepts;
- are commissioned as Stephen Ministers after completing their initial training;
- visit another person regularly and dependably and offer Christian support and care;
- participate in regular support and supervision under the guidance of trained Stephen Leaders;
- are committed to preserving the confidential nature of the caring relationship;
- serve for at least two years;
- receive continuing education and skill building throughout their years of service.

Every situation is different and special to the care receiver.

Examples where Ministers can serve are...

People who are:
homebound, residents of a long term care facility, victims of crime, terminally ill, new church members, forced to change jobs, married to someone who does not attend church, preparing for Christian service. Families of these people.

People experiencing:
frequent changes in residence, unemployment, illness, hospitalization, disability, a spiritual crisis, pregnancy, infertility.

People who have recently experienced:
birth of a premature child, multiple births, relocation, a natural disaster, divorce, remarriage, a strong faith experience and need to tell their story.

If YOU are in need of a Stephen Minister or wish to become a Stephen Minister yourself,  please contact
Rev. Linda Butler.  All inquiries are confidential.
