Band
Private band instrument lessons for students grade 5-8 are available at DCS through our band teacher, Mr. Frank Guntly.
Each student will receive a 20 minute private lesson once a week at school. The focus of your lessons will be in two areas:
1. Master your individual skills on your instrument.
2. Prepare you to participate in your school and church music programs.
Students who are learning to play a band instrument will also have the opportunity to participate in the full band rehearsal starting in January. The band will practice once each week in addition to your weekly lesson. The full band involves Delavan Christian School, Our Redeemer Lutheran School and St. Andrews Parish School. We combine all three schools to create the best possible music experience for all students. A spring concert showcases the combined band. Our DCS band also performs for the Christmas program.
Students are encouraged to participate in the solo/ensemble contest in April. Together with their teacher, they will learn and master a selected piece from the state list. Performances will be judged at the Music Festival. They also learn 3 pieces to be played with a mass band, made up of band students from 7 different schools. The mass band performs at an evening concert at the Music Festival.
Things to know:
- Students will have lessons during the school day. Mr. Guntly and your child's teachers will work out this schedule.
- The full band rehearsal (starting in January) will meet during the day at Our Redeemer, as it has in the past. Students from DCS and St. A's will arrange transportation to Our Redeemer.
- This band program is supported solely by the lessons paid by you. Lessons are $12.00 each or approximately $48.00 per month. Billing statements will be sent out at the end of each month and are payable upon receipt.
- There is no fee for band or the full band rehearsals. This is part of your lesson and band experience.
- If your student does not have an instrument, you can rent an instrument of your choice from Breber Music in Elkhorn (723-2233). All the rent does apply to the purchase of the instrument.
- If you have an instrument, please make sure it is in playing condition. If you take it to Breber Music, ask them to put the instrument in "play condition".
ARE YOU INTERESTED? Please complete the attached registration sheet and return the form to your school office by September 12th.
Lessons will begin Friday, September 23rd. Full band begins in January 2012. Bring your instrument and lesson book to your first lesson. (Just let Breber Music know what instrument you play and the school you are from. They will get the book you need.)
