Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12

First and Second Grade afternoon teacher and Resource Teacher

This year I will again be teaching first and second grade in the afternoon.  The subjects I will have with them are:  Bible, Math, Social Studies, Physical education, and Computers.

I will also be teaching 3rd and 4th grade Physical Education this year as well as taking on all of the Resource Teaching in K - 8.

Hi, I am Brenda Flikkema.  This is my 20th year of teaching at DCS.  I have taught preschool, third and fourth, and first and second grades here over the years.  I also taught second grade in the morning and seventh and eighth grade in the afternoon for one year in Pease, MN while my husband was attending college.  I received my teaching degree from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa.  I live in Delavan with my husband Brent and our three children.  Alesha is a senior at Judson University and is planning a December wedding this year,  Joshua is a Sophomore at Trinity Christian College, and Kara is a Junior at Faith Christian School.   I enjoy teaching kids and spending time with my family.

Here's what we are learning in the afternoons!

Bible:  Our Bible class will begin with God's Awesome Creation!  The Memory Verse due September 15th is Psalm 105:4-6.  "Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.  Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, O descendents of Abraham his servant, O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones."

Math:  We will begin our year learning our routines and reviewing numbers.

Social Studies:  We will begin our year looking at our rules and laws and why God asks us to obey them.

Physical Education:  This year we will have gym class on Mondays and Fridays.  Please be sure your child dresses appropriately for exercise on these days.

Computer:  Our Wednesday computer classes will be spent working on our Accelerated Reader Program and introducing the students to some of our computer programs.

Each week we also visit our school library and the students have a chance to check out books for one or two weeks.
