5/6th Ancient History: The Story of the Old World takes the students on a historical journey from the beginning of time through the Great Reformation in the 1500's. Students will learn about the great civilizations of the Egyptians, Babylonians, Greeks and Romans. They will also discover how the Muslin culture began and spread and how the Crusades attempted to stop it. The highlight of the year is the "Feudal Fair." For the month of March the students will prepare activities, displays, costumes for an afternoon presentation given to the whole school and parents. They end the year with the study of the Renanisance and the Reformation.
5/6th Bible: The first unit of the year will begin with a unit on Holy Living in the book of Peter. The next units will focus the books of the OT prophets. In the second semester, the students will go to the New Testament and study extensively the work of Jesus in the Gospels. Bible Memory work every three weeks on Mondays.
7/8th Bible: Old Testament Studies this year beginning with the Kings of Isreal and Judea. The students will learn the major prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. The most interesting part of the year is the extensive study of the Minor prophets. Many of these "little" books in the OT will be the first time the students have studied them in detail. We finish the year studying about the return from captivity and the inter-testament period.
7/8th US History: We begin with the explorers from Europe and the discovery of America. The students will then go through the colonial days, Revolution War, expansion westward, and the early Industrial Age. We end the year with the Civil War. The students will take a field trip in May to Rockford to observe a Civil War enactment historical village . Typically, there is a History test every three weeks. This year we re going to have a History Fair. The date will be in early March.
