Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12

Music Teacher

Welcome to the Delavan Christian School music program.  Music is a vital part of the Christian walk, and we value it highly at DCS.   We learn Christian music, patriotic and classical songs, contemporary music and old favorites.  Many tools are used to teach K-8 music, including voice, recorders, rhythm instruments, Boomwhackers, listening activities and dance.  We are always looking for new and old ways of learning music in its various forms.

Students in grades 6-8 are part of the DCS choir, focusing on voice quality, good singing techniques and singing in parts.  The choir works toward performance for Christmas, CSI Music Festival, Graduation ceremony and a bi-annual musical.  Previous productions include "Antshillvania," "The Music Man,"  "The Fiddler on the Roof"  and "Annie."

I am a DCS alumnus, a graduate of Delavan-Darien High School, and attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI.  I have been happily married to Richard for 28 years.   Our four children are all graduates of Delavan Christian School.  I enjoy spending time with our large, extended family and keep busy with lots of great music at DCS and at Delavan Christian Reformed Church.

Students in Grades 5-8:  Try-outs for solos and speaking parts in this year's Christmas musical will be held on Thursday, October 25, beginning at 2:20 in the music room.  Sign up on the sheets posted in the junior high wing.

Students in Grades 1-8 are learning the hymn "It is Well."  This well-known hymn is also referred to as "When Peace Like a River."  Be sure to ask your student about the Spafford family, and the tragedies that led to the writing of this hymn.  Then sing it together.  Students in grades 3-8 have it memorized.  The 1st and 2nd graders may need a little prompting.  Your child should have a copy of the music.

The Pre-K through 8th grade Christmas program will be held on Tuesday, December 18, in the DCS gym.  We are looking for parents to help with costumes.  Please call Mrs. Hirte or Mrs. Seitz, if you're able to help out.
