This year's Science Fair was an early spring highlight for DCS students. Judges evaluated student projects during the afternoon, and scores of visitors came to see their exhibits and ask questions during the evening open house.
Students in grades 5-8 are required to complete a science project for the fair. Class time is used to explore ideas, choose a project and work on the project. Steps in working on this project may include building a model, conducting research and conducting experiments. Students conclude with recording their findings, writing about procedures and creating a display that explains his or her project. While some work is completed in the classroom, there is also work required outside of the classroom for this project.
Students in the lower elementary grades complete classroom projects with different students working on different components of the main project. If students in grades 1-4 wish to make individual projects to enter, they may do so. The project must be done at home, however, with the help of parents, and it will be displayed along with the rest of the exhibits.
Several family members and friends visited this year's science fair and learned some amazing, and some merely interesting, facts about the great world that God created and how it operates. We look forward to our next Science Fair experience in March of 2009.
