Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year at Delavan Christian School! I am delighted to be back for my ninth year at DCS! I have an undergraduate degree from Michigan State University, and I have a Master's Degree in Education from UW-Whitewater. It is a gift to be able to integrate my Christian faith with my teaching. It is a true blessing to be entrusted with your children, and I covet your prayers.

September 8, 2008
Dear Parents,
I hope to have a chance to chat with many of you at the Back to School Night. I will look forward to having you stop by and visit my classroom! Life is busy in third and fourth grade! Here are some of the things we have planned for the next couple of weeks:
Spelling: Unit 1 will be our focus. A pretest will be given on Tuesday, and a test on your child's ten words will be given on Friday. Third and fourth graders will need to complete pages 13, 14, 15, and 17 by Friday. Next week, students will need to write a story using the spelling words from Unit 2. Spelling assignments will be due on Fridays unless otherwise specified.
Handwriting: Both third and fourth graders will complete pages 7, 8, and 9 by Wednesday. Next week, third graders will finish pages 10, 11, and 12, and fourth graders will be assigned pages 12, 13, and 14.
Language: We have enjoyed writing about our hobbies! Sharing orally about what we like to do will be a fun way to conclude this activity. Students will share their hobbies on Wednesday, September 10. Learning about subjects, predicates, and parts of a sentence are the focus of activities from our language book.
Math: Third graders are exploring numbers, graphs, and tally marks. Rays, angles, and lines are the topics of discussion in fourth grade.
Social Studies: On Tuesday, students will receive their assignment for the first round of reports. Third graders will be researching a state, and fourth graders will be learning about presidents. We will spend some time in the computer lab to get the process started. In the next few weeks, we'll also learn more about types of maps and the continents.
Thanks for your contined support and prayers,
Mrs. Versweyveld
