8th grade Science
Welcome to 8th grade science. I am excited to be back and to get into the new material. 8th grade has a lot of material, but it is all very good. God has given us an awesome world to explore. I am excited to join you as we discover both the creativity and order of God’s magnificent creation.
So you are in 8th grade. What can we expect?
Things that will be different
• You will now have science 5 times a week
• You will now have a book that you can take home, great for taking the homework home.
• You will be leaders in Science Olympiad and in the school. Take this responsibility seriously
Things that will be the same
• You are still a student at Dutton Christian
• You still follow all the rules
• Science will still be awesome
Curriculum
Here is what you can expect to learn about in 8th grade. A more detailed outline is on my website.
• Weather and Climate
• Invertebrates
• Heredity
• Dynamic Earth
• Matter (Chemistry)
• Human Biology and Health
What You Need for Class
• Pencil or Pen (blue or black ink only)
• Spiral Notebook (normal 70 pager is plenty)
• Folder for assignments
Important Guidelines
These rules will help class move more smoothly and help everyone enjoy it. We will follow these rues and of course the school specific rules. Failing to follow these rules will lead to yellow or red cards.
• Respect the teacher and other students (this includes others property)
• Listen when I talk and when you talk I will listen
• Complete work on time or loose points
• Come to class prepared and ready to learn, when the bell rings you are in your seat
• When in doubt ASK politely
ARP and Articles.
ARP and articles will work basically just like last year. There will be a question sheet that will go with the 3 articles that you find this year. If you have more questions, feel free to ask. Here are the dates for the due dates.
October 13 - May be a Zoobook
January 7 - Nonfiction Science
March 10 - May be a Zoobook
May 26 - Fiction Science
Keeping in Touch
The easiest way for me to keep in touch is with e-mail. If that works for you, please send me an e-mail so that I can keep you in my address book for quick comments on your student’s progress. If you would like an update just drop me a line anytime. I will have this document and other information on the website as well. Please check out what is available.
I am also open to calls at school or at home.
