Music is a wonderful way to praise God with our minds, voices, bodies, and instruments. We love using our beautiful voices to sing sacred and fun songs. Our bodies can do what our songs tell us to do.
I have been teaching music here at Dutton Christian School since 1989. I taught music at Allendale Christian and Lamont Christian from 1981 -1988. Before that my husband and I were raising four wonderful children and I was getting my music degree from Grand Valley University.
I went to Dordt College for a year before I married Lee DeVries in 1963. I taught Kindergarten - Second Grade for two years and then we began raising our family.
My own childhood was filled with music. My sisters and I sang together all the time. Singing is one of the greatest joys of my life and I love sharing and teaching others to have that same joy. I do lots of volunteering at Nursing Homes and perform programs singing and playing my accordion. My husband and I sing with the Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus.
At the end of the song the children who are skipping must run back to their place before we are finished clapping and singing the last phrase, "Skip to my Lou, my darling".
