What is science Olympiad?
Science Olympiad (SO) is a way for students to become involved in science outside of the classroom. Students meet outside of school hours to explore specific areas of science in depth and/or create projects. After the studying, the students have a one day competition. 2008 we made it to the state competition for the first time in DCS History!
Who?
Anyone in 6-8th grade is encourages to participate, and we are allowed a couple of 9th graders. Groups are allowed a few people, but only two representatives are allowed to compete.
Parents are also encouraged to help. Any interested parents may help coach. feel free to contact me if you are interested.
When? Practices will likely start right after Christmas break. The regional event will be at Grand Valley on March 27, 2010.
Volunteers: Science Olympiad is comprised of a variety of events. It is impossible for one person to coach 23 separate events and do it well. Our success is do largely to parents and others in the community who give up 1-2 hours a week to lead a small group of students preparing for Science Olympiad. If you want to help, please contact Mr. Sportel at rsportel@duttonchristianschool.org. Anyone can help! You don't have to be a scientist!
More info about Science Olympiad will come later. For now, If you would like to look into things, check out the links below.
