On Education
We believe that Almighty God has revealed all that is necessary to life and salvation in the sixty-six books of Holy Scripture, which are the Word of God. All Scripture was given by inspiration of God, is infallible and inerrant, and is the final arbiter in all disputes. Effingham Christian School was founded on the biblical principles of Scripture, which clearly state that we are to bring children up "in the nurture and admonition of the Lord." (Ephesians 6:4) In keeping with this standard, we embrace our role as servant to the Godly home and assistant to parents in their covenantal responsibilities to educate their children. We have been instructed, "you are the salt of the earth... you are the light of the world." (Matthew 5:13,14) By using proven classical techniques, rooted in Christian worldview, we will equip our students to become instruments of God. We are dedicated to providing students with a distinctively Christian education. Great emphasis is placed on teaching students to think critically and to accept instruction in a manner which will prepare them for a breadth of post-secondary educational and vocational experiences. With these skills in place, we believe our students will be better prepared to fulfill a Christian life and to advance the Kingdom of God.

On Being Christian
Education that is truly Christian must have, as its foundation, the sovereignty of God and the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Education that minimizes or ignores God's works of creation and providence must ultimately be deemed superficial. For the Christian school, every area of inquiry-- mathematics, science, history, music, languages-- must find its real meaning in God. Christian education does not distinguish between God's creation and science or between God's order and mathematics. It does not distinguish between church history or world history or between subject matter and spiritual matters. We firmly believe and instruct that our only standard of truth is found in the Holy Bible. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom." (Psalms 111:10)

On Being Classical
Classical education has a glorious heritage of nearly two millennia. Many of the great men of the faith, as well as many of our country's founding fathers, were classically educated. The basic building block for the structure of classical education is a method known as the Trivium (a Latin word meaning "three ways"). The three stages of the Trivium can be applied to any subject and consist of grammar, logic, and rhetoric. The first stage, grammar, focuses on fundamental, factual information. The second stage, logic, emphasizes the ordered relationships of the particulars in each subject. The final stage, rhetoric, is the clear expression of the grammar and logic of each subject. Teaching methods used in each stage wonderfully integrate and correspond to the way God has designed children.

For more information on this subject, we recommend reading The Case for Classical Christian Education by Douglas Wilson.
