PRAYER MINISTRY COMMITTEE MANDATE
We know from the Bible (but also from our own experience) how vital to our faith and life is the ministry of prayer. We are told in several places in the Bible to be faithful in prayer. In Ephesians 6:18, we read: “Pray in the Spirit on all occasions, with all kinds of prayers and requests.” This is a tremendous responsibility, one that calls for serious and strategic implementation. The Apostles themselves decided to select certain men to “wait on tables” (from which arose the office of deacon) so that the Apostles could “give attention to prayer and the ministry of the word” (Acts 6:4). The ministry at Faith would also be served well if we were to give more attention to prayer by expanding our church’s prayer ministry. In our Mission and Vision Statement we state that “we hear God’s call for a deeper life of intercessory prayer for believers . . .” and that “we are committed to developing lives disciplined by Bible study, meditation, and prayer.” To facilitate the council in its efforts to mobilize the Faith Church to more effectively utilize the gift of prayer, the council has established a “Prayer Ministry Committee.”
Purpose
1) To encourage and enhance the ministry of prayer within our congregation.
2) To provide an efficient and effective method of communicating congregational joys and concerns to the Faith CRC membership (e.g. a prayer chain).
3) To gather and make available resources on prayer.
4) To evaluate current prayer ministries within the congregation (e.g. prayer chain, prayer in worship services and the “Annual Day of Prayer”).
5) Look for and implement new ways to enhance prayer life within the congregation.
