SESSION # 1 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.
ALPHA – Conference Room
Leaders: Bob Frevert, Dave Holtberg, Tom Gann
Using the David C. Cook Bible in Life Comprehensive Bible Study Series as their study material, the study focus for this quarter is on God’s covenant as manifested in communities. Unit 1 looks at four people called to lead the Israelites: Joshua, Gideon, Ezra and Nehemiah. Next, stories from Mark of Jesus interacting and inviting people into covenant living with God will be explored. Then a look at 1 and 2 Peter will discern the qualities of people who are part of God’s covenant community. Alpha class is outstanding in their personal concern for loving, supporting, and caring for one another. As needs and concerns are expressed, living faith through action becomes evidence of the commitment they have to be the body of Christ.
JOY CLASS – Library
Leaders: Patti McDonald, Sandi Vickers, Sandra Eichelberger
Using the Present Word Uniform Lesson Series, the Joy Class will catch a glimpse of the stress and strain of living into God’s call to be a people. First sessions of this study will lift up leaders of Israel (Joshua, Gideon, Ezra, and Nehemiah) with stories of inspiration. Then focus will turn to the Gospel of Mark and reveal “outsiders” who have opportunity to become part of the covenant community. In the final sessions of this quarter, examine life in the new community as portrayed in 1 and 2 Peter. No prior study is necessary for full enjoyment of this class and all are welcome
THRISTQUENCHERS - Chapel
Leaders: Lucie Morris, Perry Phillips, Frank Schillinger
The Thirstquenchers Sunday School class meets in our beautiful chapel. This class is made up of all ages and personalities. Feel free to join with them as they continue their study of the book of Genesis. One class member states, “We're learning so much that we never realized was in that great book of the Old Testament even though we've read it more than once.” A service oriented class; they seek ways in which to be of service to others in our church and community. Enabling them to do this is an offering collected weekly so that money is available when needs arise. “We'd love to have you join us, and we promise you will not be bored as we search the book of Genesis for God’s purpose and plan for His creation.”
THE SHEPHERDS FLOCK – Room 201
Leaders: Neil and Anna Hook, Scott and Kathy Patman
An in-depth study of The Epistles of John and Jude, four short yet important New Testament books, will be the focus for this class in the fall. Discussion around the many contrasts –light and darkness; worldliness and godliness; love and hate - will be challenging and comprehensive. The study of the three epistles will show how to understand and obey the commandments of God. Jude responds to the false teachings of the times that arose in the church during the period of A.D. 70-80. Leader directed and open discussion is the format of this class where all ages are welcomed.
BIBLE SURVEY – Room 202
Leader: Bob Barton, Phil Schillinger, Judy Wheeler
Whether we’re pushed down or lifted up, faced with deadly choices or seemingly easy ones…you’ll find faith is for everyday living. The structure of this class is discussion oriented for those who feel comfortable doing so, but many prefer to sit quietly and simply absorb the thoughts and ideas offered up by others. We begin each week with a warm cup of coffee, plenty of welcoming smiles and handshakes, followed by a time of sharing and prayer. This class is always excited to see new faces, so we hope you will stop by and become a part of this study. The continuation of a study on John will be completed this fall followed by another book of the Bible study to be determined.
THEOPHILI – Room 203/204
Leaders: Cheryl Ireland, Sandy Shuler, Susan Gibbs
Committed to serious Bible study, Theoplhili welcome all to a life of growing faith. Fall teaching for this class will find study focus on the 7 Feasts of Israel and the Temple/Tabernacle. The significance to the past and how God was preparing the way for the Messiah are revealed through a deeper understanding and appreciation of these Jewish feast elements. Studying the Tabernacle will give us greater appreciation for God’s desire to dwell in our midst, help us understand His plan of redemption, and allow us to better understand our call to be holy. Join us in study and develop new friendships as we seek to know and grow in faith and devotion to Christ.
REFORMED CHRISTIANITY – What makes Presbyterians Unique?
Room 206 Leaders: Evan Gibbs, Tim Rogers
This class will study the historic Creeds and Confessions that inform and shape the doctrines and theology of the Reformed Tradition in general and the Presbyterian Church in particular. We will use the Book of Confessions as our guide and study the scriptures that are the basis for these doctrines. The class will rely on both lecture and discussion to deepen our understanding of key doctrines. Lifelong and new Presbyterians are encouraged to attend.
