What should I expect when I visit?
God loves everyone, and we hope to share that love by how we treat guests. We hope you come with a sense of expectancy: expecting to draw closer to God in a community of beloved disciples. If you are planning to visit a worship service, you may have some concerns about how to "fit in." Of course, you are welcome even if you do not "fit in." God loves you just as you are! But here are a few tips.
Where do I go? When you enter the parking lot, turn right, and our main entrance is at the end of the building. You are welcome to park in our visitors' spots, right up front. (Handicap parking is also available there, and the building is fully accessible.) As you enter the sanctuary building, please stop by the WelcomeCenter, which is straight in front of you. We have many cheerful volunteers who are dedicated to helping you feel at home, and giving any assistance and info you may need.
How should I dress? At our two traditional worship services (at 8:15 and 11:00), you will see "Sunday dress": most men wear slacks and either a polo or button-down shirt, and a few wear ties. Women tend to wear slacks or dresses. The 9:30 contemporary service is more casual. Many people wear jeans or even shorts, and others wear slacks. Most of our other gatherings are very casual.
Do kids attend worship? First Presbyterian is a fantastic place for kids. Children are welcome in worship (even squirmy ones!), and every worship service has a Time with Young Disciples. Childcare for children under age 5 is also available at each service, and Sunday school for all ages occurs at the same time as our 9:30 and 11:00 worship services. All family members are encouraged to attend both worship and Sunday school.
