Coming Up at Memorial

Continuing this Wednesday, November 11th at 6:45 pm, Don't miss award wining professor and author Dr. Paul Copan as he continues his series for adults on:Thorny Old Testament Problems IV: Does the Bible Support Slavery?
Paul Copan

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word “slavery”? Probably the pre-Civil War South, right? A lot of people—Christians and critics alike—have this horrible institution in mind when they read the word “slave” in Scripture. The word “slave” isn’t always an accurate translation. What’s worse, many people think the Bible actually endorses this kind of slavery. Actually, this is a huge misunderstanding.  In ancient Israel, the slave was no more than a contracted worker or indentured servant who needed to pay off his debt and was then free to go.  In fact, when we compare the treatment of servants “slaves” in Israel to the rest of the ancient Near East, Israel comes out looking very good!  Come explore this topic with us as we wrap up our series on “Thorny Old Testament Problems.”

A Shoebox Full of Love: It’s time for Operation Christmas Child!

In just 16 years, Operation Christmas Child has reached nearly 70 million children in over 140 countries—that’s about three-quarters of all the countries in the world! This is wonderful opportunity for you to help share the love of Christ, which is a key part of our mission here at Memorial.

Here’s how to participate in this wonderful program and help bring Jesus to children:  1) Use a standard size shoe box  2) Determine if your gift is for a boy or girl and select the age category (2-4; 5-9; 10-14) and attach the appropriate label 3)  Fill the box with a variety of gifts (school supplies, toys, hygiene items, hard candy, hair clips, t-shirts, etc.)  Please do not include any war-related items or used items. 5) Include your donation of $7 to help cover shipping costs 6)  Bring the boxes to the church by November 15th.

Informational brochures are available by the entrance to the sanctuary.  Please contact Lisa Shaw at 561.818.4806 or email
shaw_lisalynn@yahoo.com if you have any questions.
