Mission Statement: Blessed Assurance Adult Day and Health Care Services, Inc. is committed to offering a cost effective day time alternative to institutional care of the aged and mentally and physically challenged; while providing a safe, compassionate, educational, and Christian environment designed to promote each participant's personal independence and well being, as well as, allowing care providers break periods from full-time care giving.
Background: Blessed Assurance is a non-profit adult day care in Matthews. There are seniors as well as some young adults that attend this day care. Some of these young adults are brain injury survivors or cancer survivors. This adult day care provides social, recreational and health activities and services in a group setting - along with the following benefits:
_ Helps cognitively- and physically-impaired adults maintain or improve their level of functioning. The goal is for them to remain in a community setting, enjoying their sense of dignity and self-worth.
_ Offers opportunities for socialization and peer support.
_ Offers nursing and social services in a stimulating environment.
_ Promotes improvement in mental and physical health.
_ Provides assistance to families and/or caregivers who have an adult who cannot be left alone during the day, yet does not need 24 hour care in a nursing home.
_ Helps functionally impaired individuals who live alone and need support services to improve or maintain their level of independence.
_ Prevents social isolation and the mental deterioration that often accompanies it.
Who Uses Adult Day Care?
_ Physically and cognitively impaired
_ Socially isolated
_ Persons needing assistance with personal care
_ Persons needing assistance to function independently in the community, but not needing 24-hour supervised living situation
Ideas for making a difference: Renovate the gardens, paint, devotional programs, bingo, general maintenance projects around the building, crafts, place-mats for tables (creatively made by kids), holiday cards personalized to each adult at the daycare, Christmas gifts, monthly birthday cakes, etc. As you can see the opportunities to make a difference are endless. Each gesture will make more of a difference than you can imagine. This is a great opportunity for members at MPC.
