Montreat 2010

Presbyterian Women’s Retreat Recap

The Presbyterian Women enjoyed a lovely weekend retreat led by Linda Steber of Davidson College Presbyterian Church. Our discussions centered on “Faith and Environment.” To open the weekend, we reviewed the Creation story found in Genesis, and were challenged to think of how well we care for God’s creation in our own lives. By examining the Creation story in a new way, we wondered, “Are we bystanders to manage God’s creation?” or “Are we part of God’s original creation?” We discussed how our responsibilities may be different if we are part of God’s original creation as opposed to a detached manager. We applied these lessons to our world today, so
different from God’s original creation. We discussed ways we could make changes in our own lives to better care for our environment, beginning with praising God daily for His creation. To round out our weekend, we had an outdoor service at the Prayer Walk at the Montreat Reservoir. There, we were invited to take our discussion into God’s world. Amid the early morning sun rays through
the golden leaves and silence, we experienced the glory of His creation. There were weepy eyes and wet cheeks as we spent the final moments of the weekend looking again on what is the creation! We walked the Labyrinth and talked about how we can, in our little way, change our life in praise to God. We were asked and responded individually what our plans were to change our lives and those that we encounter. You, too, can help in enhancing God’s creation by looking at The Window and other bulletins to see how PW and the church will make MPC a GREEN Church. More details to follow. We can do this!!

We hope that you can join us at our next retreat. Below we have shared a few pictures from our retreat in 2009 and 2010.
