2006 Mission Project

2006 MISSION PROJECT

Children of Hope Vocational Centre

This year we will receive offerings to assist a group of Christians who are working with Ugandan orphans in the southern part of that nation. They have gathered around 70 young children who are either single or double orphans or in dire poverty. Most of these children are living with Christian families scattered in a 20 mile radius around Rukengiri, Uganda. Most of these families can only afford to send their adoptive children to primary school but not secondary school. So, they have begun a vocational training center to provide the training for these children to learn how to farm, tailor, carpenter, make bricks and weave. They have already purchased 4 acres and have made 10,000 bricks from mud and straw baked in the sun. Now they need assistance to actually construct the building. It is for this end that we will be taking offerings during the  month of November. Their new center will be called “Children of Hope Vocational Centre.”

We have photographs of the children in this project. We will assign 2 or 3 of our students to each Ugandan student. Our children will write letters to their Ugandan and receive a copy of their photo. Friday, October 27th we will hold Chapel group meetings to give each student their new pen pal and photo. We hope to be able to take a photo of each group that is writing an Ugandan and to send that photo with their letters. Any parent who would like to help with the photography please inform Lois Harris or Jim Altmaier. We need 10 parents with camera and a little time.

The students will have one week to write their letters and Chapel groups will meet again briefly on Friday, November 3. We will collect the letters, collate them with their photo and mail them to Uganda.

During November, we will then accept offerings for this project. In December when all the Ugandan children get together at the Centre Church for 2 days, they will write return letters to our students. We will hopefully receive them in January or February.

The man leading this group in Uganda is named Ignatius Byamguisha. Please keep him and his fellow workers in your prayers. They are doing a good work and are led by the Holy Spirit in caring for these children. Uganda has been ravaged by civil war and AIDS. Many orphans exist and are left on the streets to fend for themselves. We can help make a small difference. EVERY PENNY given will go directly to the Children of Hope Vocational Centre. We will wire the money to them ourselves in December. Pray and ask the Lord what He would have you do for the benefit of His work there. May it all be for the glory of the Christ.
