| | I am married to Gordon Van Zanten, English teacher at Pella Christian High School. We have been living in Pella Iowa for the past 34 years. I grew up in the northwest part of Iowa and met my husband at Dordt College. We have been married for 36 years and have been blessed with three wonderful children and five beautiful grandchildren. We have a daughter Kristi married to Vern De Groot living in Arvada, Colorado, a daughter Karen married to Matt Westenburg living in LeMars, Iowa, and a son Douglas married to Carriel living in Iowa City, Iowa.
I love to read, knit, cross stitch, try new recipes, and visit our grandchildren. Three great books I read this summer were The Gravedigger's Daughter by Carol Anne Oates (it was an American Jewish immigrant story), A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hasseini (a survival story from Afghanistan), and The Whistling Season by Ivan Doig ( a fiction must read for those who love teaching children).
Favorite Bible verse: What does the Lord require...but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God Micah 6:8
