The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Family Reading Schedule

 

Our summer Sunday school classes for 2nd-5th grades will be studying The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis beginning June 8th. This is a 17-chapter book that can be read as a family activity during the week.  Then on Sunday mornings we will review and discuss the week's chapter(s) and watch the corresponding section from the movie.   Even if you are not here one Sunday morning or are on vacation, we encourage you to participate in this creative adventure. 

 

On one level this story is a fantasy about the adventures of four children in the land of Narnia.  However, on another level it portrays the battle of good against evil and the necessity of Christ's atoning sacrifice for all of us.  C.S. Lewis has given us a literary masterpiece that expresses some of the most profound truths of the Christian religion. This story is an allegory in literature in which the great lion, Aslan, is a symbol for Jesus Christ.

K-Grade 5 - The Bible Marketplace

The Bible marketplace Rotation (Grades K-5)

Come shop for knowledge in the Bible Marketplace each Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m.   elementary school age children are able to shop for knowledge at the Bible Marketplace. Some facts about The Bible Marketplace are listed below:

The Bible Marketplace....
 
· Based upon the rotation model for Church School
 
· offered to grades K-5
 
· Children rotate between rooms on a 5 week plan
 
· Rooms are specialized learning centers to teach the story/topic in different ways
 
· All elementary age children will go into the Temple for first 10-15 minutes of Church School for music, prayer concerns, celebrations, etc. before dispersing to the other rooms.
 
· Rooms are:
Temple - Initial Gathering Location/Games
Mary's Garden - Hospitality/Cooking 
Joseph's Playhouse -  Drama/Storytelling  
The Carpenter's Workshop - Art
Scribes and Scrolls - Media
 
· Workshop leaders and assistants will volunteer for 5-6 week time period to teach the same lesson to all groups (with some adjustments for age). 
 
· Workshop leaders are able to serve in  rooms consistent with their own interests and talents; cooks can volunteer for the Hospitality room, artists for the art room, etc
 
· One lesson preparation is required for the 5-6 week rotation. The lesson will be modified slightly for age levels.
 
· Adult Church School classes may consider volunteering to lead workshops in a rotation as a block. They would be able to teach with their friends and would not miss their adult class.
