(INCLUDE REQUEST FOR MARGAINE TUBS)
Hey StoneRidge, it’s our turn to prepare Sunday Supper for ARK Ministries on August 31, and the recipe this time is Shepherd's Pie.
We understand that during the summer, people sometimes tend to make themselves scarce, and that's okay, because this recipe is super easy to make ahead of time and then frozen if you still wish to be involved. So enjoy your weekend away (if you happen to be travelling on the August 31 weekend), and get that Shepherd's Pie in to the church freezer!
Note: The recipe is provided below, and if you plan to make a Shpherd's Pie, please complete the form below so we'll know when we've made our quota.
SHEPHERD'S PIE
- 4-5 pounds ground beef
- 5-6 potatoes
- 2 envelopes onion soup mix
- 900-1000 gram bag frozen mixed vegetables
- 3 cups milk
In a large pan, brown beef. Drain and add onion soup and milk. Add salt and pepper to taste. Stir in frozen vegetables.
Place meat mixture in large roaster. Boil and mash potatoes until smooth. Spread over meat, and dot with butter or cheese. Bake at 350 until lightly browned on top.
If you are making this recipe ahead and freezing, omit the baking part.
Check out the options below for bringing in your meal.
Option 1 - Bring it Cool!
If you're bringing your Shepherd's Pie in cool, place it in the SRF kitchen fridge, either during the morning services on August 31, or in the afternoon between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Option 2 - Bring it Hot!
If you're making your Shepherd's Pie on August 31, it will obviously still be hot. But that's cool - bring it in between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and leave it in the SRF kitchen (not in the fridge).
Option 3 - Make it Ahead and Freeze it for Later!
If you want to make it ahead and freeze it, you can bring it to the church any time and place it in the deep freezer - marked for 'ARK Supper' - in the SRF kitchen.
Meals can also be dropped off during regular weekday office hours and we'll place it in the freezer for you. (We promise the staff won't eat up all your hard work!)
Want to Serve it?
As always, you also have the option of serving the very meal you made. Volunteers are always invited - and very much appreciated. If you feel led to volunteer, bring your hot Shepherd's Pie to St. Andrews Church on Coburg Road, in Halifax, between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on August 31.
