What it is: In a nutshell, Second Saturday represents easy serving on-ramps for the whole family.

It's simple - just show up at StoneRidge Fellowship, 85 Temple Terrace (located between Cobequid Rd and Hwy 102's Exit 4C) on the second Saturday of each month (hence the title) at 8:30 a.m. sharp, when we'll present you with the serving options for that month. Select the option that best fits you (or the option which takes you just a little outside your comfort zone), and by 8:45 a.m. make your way to that location, serve, and then be back at StoneRidge (or on your merry way) by noon.

Do I Have to Sign Up?

No sign-up required, no long-term commitment - just bring a heart that's willing to serve others.

What if I Don't Attend StoneRidge?

No problem. It's not about us. It's about you - getting outside the 'box' we typically call church and serving the communities around us.

Who Can Take Part in 2nd Saturdays?

Anyone who is old enough to understand what it means to serve can participate in our Second Saturdays.

It's the perfect time to invite friends, family, neighbours... and anyone you can think of who might not like the whole church scene, but loves to help others and enjoys giving back to the community around them.

Stuff We've Learned

Here are a couple things we should pass along to you regarding 2nd Saturdays:

• Although 2nd Saturday is intended for just about anyone (we do say it's for the whole family), please use your best judgment as to what age children should be brought to Second Saturday. Childcare is not provided, and the reality is, it may be a tad difficult to serve when you are holding an infant. We will do our best to provide important details for each serving option, such as any age restrictions, etc.
• Since it's serving, it can sometimes be... uh, not-so-clean work. Therefore we recommend you arrive dressed appropriately, with the expectation that whatever you are wearing could get dirty. Serving options have included (but are not necessarily limited to) the following: cleaning, scrubbing, mopping, scraping, dusting, sweeping, painting, baking (yes, we have even added baking to the list), gardening, planting, raking, shoveling... just to name a few (you get the picture). It all comes down to where you decide to serve, and we'll let you know exactly what's involved and where, each 2nd Saturday at 8:30 a.m., before heading out to individual locations.

How Do I Get to the Serving Location?

Transportation on our dime is limited to our one StoneRidge bus, which takes people to just one of the serving options and brings that group of people back to StoneRidge - but don’t simply hop on the bus to get a free ride! Make sure it’s the right serving option for you and your family. (Car-pooling is encouraged.)

If you have a van or other vehicle you’d like to use to help transport others, simply show up and we’ll see what happens. Otherwise, for the most part we request 2nd Saturday people provide their own method of transportation to the proposed serving location(s). Maps will be provided for each location, and team leaders for each option will be available to answer any questions you may have, and to provide you with accurate details on a particular location’s whereabouts and other pertinent information.

Can I Bring My Kids to 2nd Saturday?

Children will be allowed to serve at certain options, and perhaps not at others. Please review the criteria for each location prior to choosing a serving option and leaving the building to serve. Children under 16 are certainly welcome, but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Families with small children (including infants) should consider an option that best suits their situation.

Parents with infants and toddlers, please use your discretion as to whether a particular Second Saturday activity would be appropriate for including your child / children. This may involve simply showing up and seeing what’s available first. We want to encourage all family members to serve in some capacity, so give it a shot first, and then let us know how we can better accommodate you and your family. Your feedback is important.

A good rule of thumb (in most 2nd Saturday cases) is to ask this question: Does my child understand what it means to serve others? If the answer is yes, they're probably good to go.

On-Site Instructions

Once at the serving option site, carefully follow any instructions provided by the site leader or person(s) running that particular location. Their rules and instructions are in place for your safety (and theirs).

Remember, you’re representing StoneRidge Fellowship for a brief period of time each 2nd Saturday, so wear your best smile, get your serve on, and most importantly of all... enjoy!
