Not me, not us but Christ
I took this picture of myself when I was doing a children?s talk in the worship service on September 27th.. I showed it to the children. It is not a very flattering picture of me. The Gospel lesson for that , Mark 9:38-50 was not very flattering about the disciples. The disciples come to Jesus and complain that people were casting out demons in Jesus Christ?s name but they were not following the disciples. Jesus tells the disciples that that person was following Him and not to worry.
I titled my sermon: Change Your Tune.
The choir and bells were going to lead the congregation in singing. When In Our Music God Is Glorified. The tune was changed from what is in the hymnal. So I told my director that was gong to be my sermon title. It was truly wonderful as the choir, the bells the organ and a guest trumpeter all led the congregation with the different tune. So I said to the congregation you changed your tune for the music, now change your tune in life. The old tune is ourself and the new tune is Jesus Christ.
Jesus thought about others when he went to the cross to save us. He humbled Himself unto death itself so that we might receive the gift of everlasting life. Because of this, we are already part of that new tune in Christ. As we live that life, singing that new song, we daily rejoice at what is ahead for us and for who believe. So our life is to be about me, not about us but about Christ. In that way- God is Glorified. September 29, 2009
