Once each year, with a special Sunday worship service, First Presbyterian observes St. Andrews Day as a means of celebrating its Scottish roots.
The service follows a form of worship and ceremony that dates back to1564. The entrance of the pastor into the sanctuary is preceded by a ?Beadle? bearing the bible. Then, the pastor, accompanied by a bagpiper escort, enters the santuary to signal the beginning of the service. Later in the service, members, guests, and visitors are invited to present pieces of tartan for blessing. In keeping with the spirit of the occasion, all are encouraged to wear something of plaid.
The Pastor is escorted into the Sanctuary by a bagpiper, signaling the start of the worship service.
