Beginning in January of each year, our collection of items for shoeboxes begins. Our red shoe that collects the items is located in the vestibule for six months. Every two weeks a new item is listed in our bulletin that is needed for the box. Empty shoeboxes are needed all the time. In 2008, 100 shoeboxes were filled by our Mission Committee and taken to the drop off point in Ansted.
The United Methodist Women collect Campbell Soup Labels and other brand name labels. The labels are placed in the Campbell Lunch Pail in the vestibule. These labesl are sent to Scott's Run Settlement House which can be used to purchased items needed at this Mission Project. A list of labels that can be redeemed is located in our pamphlet rack in the vestibule.
The Mission Committee has placed a box in the vestibule to put used ink cartridges. The cartridges can be returned for a monetary reimbursement. This money is then used for various mission projects or as a need arises.
A loose change jar is also located in the vestibule to place your pennies. Throughout the year these pennies are used for various mission projects or as a need arises.
Each quarter the literature that we have completed and the literature we may not have used, is collected. Our Mission Committee Chairperson, Kim Spencer, then takes the literature to be stored. Throughout the year, a representative collectes the literature and takes it to a Navaho Indian Reservation to be utilized.
An ongoing ministry is the distribution of back packs for children that must leave their homes for foster care. At times their departure is done quickly, and they have no time to collect personal items. We continue to fill back packs with hygeine and other necessary items until the children can get situated in their new foster home.
