In May 2006, Covenant Church welcomed Reverend Mark Pluimer as our new Pastor.

Pastor Mark and his wife, Laurie, moved to the Fox Valley from the Milwaukee area, where he served for three years as associate pastor at Brookfield Christian Reformed Church.

"I'm looking forward to seeing what God is going to do here," Pastor Mark said.  "I've come without an agenda, and I'm excited to see God's plan unfold.  I believe I've been called here to minister by loving people and by teaching, preaching, and counseling."

Mark and Laurie have one son, Ethan, who they completely adore.  Laurie is enjoying her time as a stay-at-home mother.  There is nothing in life they enjoy more than time with their son.

Mark began his college career at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI as a pre-med student, then completed his studies at Dordt College, Sioux Center, IA, with a degree in biology and secondary education. 

During his junior year of college, Mark sensed God calling him to ministry.  Through a process of prayer and seeking counsel, he responded to that call by attending Seminary.  He graduated from Calvin Theological Seminary in 2003 with a Master of Divinity degree.

Laurie, a graduate of Crown College in Minnesota, has a Bachelor's degree in Theology.  She has a heart for mission work and has spent considerable time overseas.  In 2005 Mark and Laurie led a group from Brookfield CRC to Uganda, East Africa for three weeks to work alongside Watoto Child Care Ministries.  They hope to make similar trips in the future.

Mark's hobbies include playing with his son, golfing, playing basketball, hunting, and being outdoors.  He also loves to read a wide range of materials, from theology to novels, saying, "I think anyone who writes and preaches needs to develop the discipline of reading."

Pastor Mark and Laurie say they feel confirmed in their calling to Appleton.  "We feel very positive about being here.  Covenant Church offers a warm, welcoming community, and we invite others to experience the love of Christ in community with us."
