                                            ATTENDANCE POLICY

At school a student is exposed to various types of instruction. Because each class period contributes significantly to the curriculum objectives of Veritas, and because the instructional program is progressive and sequential, regular attendance is necessary. However, in recognizing the authority of parents over their children, we understand that parents may decide that it is in the best interest of their children not to attend school on a particular day. Teachers should not be expected to re-teach lessons missed due to planned optional absences.

ABSENCES
A record of daily attendance (daily class attendance in Junior and Senior High) for each student will be kept. The total number of days absent and days present will be recorded on the student’s report card.
The school office needs to be notified by the parent of their approval and the reason for the student’s absence from school. Notification of preplanned absences must be in writing and must contain the reason for the absence.
In the event the total number of absences, whether planned or unplanned, is equal to or exceeds 10% of the scheduled school days (10 days per semester, 20 days per year) the student will not receive credit for that semester and will not be passed on to the next level or grade. This is an Arizona state regulation.

TARDIES
Students should be on the playground/basketball court by 7:55 AM when line-up is called. School begins at 8 AM, therefore students are considered tardy if arriving after 8 AM.

TRUANCY
Truancy is defined as an absence without the knowledge and consent of the parents and/or the school staff. This would include leaving school without permission before the end of the day or staying out of any scheduled class without permission. Such action is not permitted and may result in suspension or expulsion.
