U'NIFORM, n. The particular dress of soldiers, by which one regiment or company is distinguished from another, or a soldier from another person . . . This dress is called a uniform, because it is alike among all the soldiers.

DILEM'MA, n. A difficult or doubtful choice; a state of things in which evils or obstacles present themselves on every side, and it is difficult to determine what course to pursue.

From its beginning Veritas has been a uniform school. This means that all students are expected to wear the prescribed clothing while attending school and school activities. We have tried to make it as easy and affordable as possible to comply with this policy.

If a dilemma is a difficult choice between two sides, then what exactly is the dilemma in this situation? For some parents the dilemma is between responding submissively to the uniform policy of the school and being good stewards of their money. This has meant that some resourceful parents have shopped around and purchased items from other sources when they have found better prices. The problem is that these other items are not always the same as what is available through the uniform company.

What is the answer? First and foremost I would ask that all families comply with the uniform policy as stated in the pamphlet passed out at the end of the school year. That includes purchasing items from the selected sources. However, I do not want to force anyone to violate their own conscious regarding the stewardship of their money. If you truly feel you simply cannot purchase the prescribed uniform items from the uniform company please contact me.

Please realize that a student's desire to express their own individuality through their appearance is not a legitimate dilemma in this case given the meaning of the word "uniform."

We have changed uniform companies this year from Campus Club to French Toast, but this does not mean you have to purchase all new items from French Toast. If items purchased from Campus Club match those listed on our Dress Code at French Toast they may still be worn. All new items should be purchased from French Toast. However, worn and faded clothing should be replaced.
