Community Connect Volunteers Needed
As a result of the recent flooding in Fond du Lac County, many of our community members have experienced great loss of property, possessions, and endured the fears associated with being evacuated. During the past month, organizations such as UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief), Red Cross, and Salvation Army have made door to door visits to residents in the affected areas to provide various types of support. Recent reports from agencies involved in the relief/recovery effort have communicated that these efforts need to be expanded. In an effort to respond to this community need, the United Methodist Committee on Relief has offered to provide training to volunteers who would like to reach out to the flood effected residents in our community. The outreach that is being requested is meant to nurture the spirit of those stressed by this disaster and not based in any religious denomination.
If you are a compassionate person, if you are willing to listen, and if you are willing to hand out a helpful information sheet---You are needed for this portion of the relief effort. There is a special need for bilingual volunteers. Volunteers should be able to comfortably climb up and down a flight of stairs, walk without difficulty, free of respiratory illness, and be willing to work with others. For the protection of all, background checks will be completed on all volunteers and they will be clearly identified as a community volunteer.
To volunteer or request additional information,, please contact Rev. Ellen Rasmussen, UMCOR District Response Co-coordinator at ellenrasmussen@wisconsinumc.org.
