Waupun Flood Assistance Information

The flood waters have receded but the clean-up continues in Waupun.  In order to coordinate services between those in the Waupun area who need help with their flood clean-up and those willing to volunteer their time in the relief efforts, interested persons are asked to do one of the following:

§         Fill out a Flood Help Request form or a Flood Help Volunteer form.

§         Email your name and phone number along with a short description of the work you would like help with or the work you are willing to do.

§         Leave a message at 920-324-2898

This website will also be updated with additional flood assistance information as it becomes available:

§        The Dodge County Emergency Management website contains information, press releases, and answers to frequently asked questions.

§        Fond du Lac FEMA Disaster Resource Center: Fond du Lac County residents may meet with FEMA personnel and various other federal and county agencies in the Henken Room located in the arts building at UW-Fond du Lac, 400 University Drive, Fond du Lac.  Hours are 10 AM - 7 PM seven days a week until no longer needed.

  • Small Business Disaster Aid is available from FEMA in the form of long-term, low-interest loans administered by the Small Business Administration (SBA); but it is quicker to apply online with SBA or print the applications and send it in. Detailed information on how to apply for aid is found on the SBA website.  SBA representatives are also on-site at the recovery centers. The whole loan process will take 6-8 weeks and maybe longer because of the high volume of requests at this time.

Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation (FCEDC) has set up a Disaster Recovery MicroLoan Program to help businesses affected by the flooding.  FCEDC’s loan will not have any early payoff penalties, so businesses could use it as a bridge to get through.  Any Waupun business, in either Dodge or Fond du Lac County, that needs assistance can fill out a loan application.

§         Red Cross Clean-up Kits are available at the Waupun Fire Department (16 East Main Street).  The kit includes a cleaning bucket, vinyl gloves, bleach, all-purpose cleaner, scrub brush, broom, mop, and squeegee.

§         Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: After natural disasters such as floods, excess moisture and standing water contribute to the growth of mold in homes and other buildings. When returning to a home that has been flooded, be aware that mold may be present and may be a health risk for your family. Check out their website for ways to safely prevent mold growth.

§         Sandbag Disposal:  Sandbags used in the flood can contain harmful bacteria and need to be disposed of properly.  Do NOT use them in your child’s sandbox.  They can be brought to the city landfill at 901 N. Madison St. and placed on the pallet located where the two driveways split, just before the scale.

§         FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency): Anyone in Dodge or Fond du Lac counties with damages and losses caused by the June severe storms, tornadoes and flooding can apply for assistance by calling 800-621-3362 (FEMA). Those with a speech- or hearing-impairment can call (TTY) 800-462-7585.  Both telephone lines, as well as online registration, are open 24 hours a day.

§         Dodge County FEMA Disaster Resource Center: Dodge County residents may meet with FEMA personnel and various other federal and county agencies at the Public Safety Building, 128 Cross Street, Juneau.  Hours are 10 AM – 7 PM seven days a week until no longer needed.

§         Disaster FoodShare Plan: income guidelines apply to this program.  Dodge County residents should apply at the Dodge County FEMA Disaster Resource Center (see address above). Fond du Lac County residents should contact Client Registration at 929-3187 or 929-3400.

§         ADVOCAP:  Fond du Lac County residents may be eligible for assistance with water heater, furnace, and weatherization replacement not covered by insurance or FEMA.  Call 923-7760 for details.

§         Crises Intervention 24-Hour Hotline for Emotional Support: The number for Dodge County residents is 920-386-3500. Fond du Lac County residents can call 920-929-3535.

§         Zero-interest Loans: Marine Credit Union has made $1 million of zero-interest loans available for victims of the recent flooding in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. The funds are intended for individuals who may be in need of assistance to cover the costs associated with clean-up, supplies, temporary housing or day-to-day needs. Funds will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to $5,000 per borrower. The loans are interest free and payment free for the first 120 days. Individuals in need of assistance should call 923-7280.

§         A Well that was Submerged by Flood Water should be checked for bacteria.  Well water test kits can be obtained free from the Dodge County Health Department (386-3670) or purchased from the Fond du Lac County Health Department (929-3085).  If samples come back as having unsafe levels of bacteria present, it is recommended that the well be disinfected and then re-sampled.  Information on how to perform sampling and well sanitizing can be obtained from the Health Department or on the Department of Natural Resources website.
